After yesterday's post it occurred to me that my cancer-kicking posse needs a theme song. (T-shirts too...is there an artist in the house?) I'm a little too doped up to produce any poetry right now, but if my poetry-writing posse will contribute the verses, I'll provide the title: Kicking Cancer's Butt.
Now over to you.

Let me tell ya a little story about a gal named Bev
A war’yer in pumps who won’t be banished to her bed
She’s vanquished chemo and a rep who was rude
Much to the delight of her friends and her brood
Skilled docs have helped… scarves, laughs… Ginger tea
Well, the battle continues. There are things Bev must still bear
Drugs to take… Icky meds that stole her hair
Nightmarish things have been her reality
Cancer, if you think she’s down, you don’t know our Beverly
Pills she’ll take …. And rides in colleague’s cars
Cancer, you’d best watch out, she’ll smack you squarely on your chin
Run while you can, this is a battle you won’t win
Keep messin with her and her massive possee you will see
Docs, nurses, students, family, friends... we'll beat you down soundly
Cancer, listen good … Don’t set a spell… Put your shoes on
Don’t come back now, y’hear?
Y'HEAR? THOUGHT SO!
:) Bets
Here I sit laughing my fool head off and it's all your fault!
I'm getting the band together!!!
Draft 1 - my songwriting partner is putting together some music as I write and I'm sure we'll be changing some things around...
Kickin’ Cancer’s Butt
She was on a good path
Finally moving up that ladder of success
Just two weeks before
She’d watched her daughter dancing in a wedding dress
She was soaring
Flying higher than she had ever dreamed
Then in one brief moment
That world she knew came crashing down around her feet
But now, she’s kickin’ cancer’s butt
With her posse of oncologists and that stupid rep. selling drugs
The surgeons, the nurses
And the technicians making Elekta buzz
Yeah now, she’s kickin’ cancer’s butt
Dark days spread out before her
Like those sleepless nights that would never end
She couldn’t believe in the future
Because her New Normal started settling in
But now, she’s kickin’ cancer’s butt
With her posse of oncologists and that stupid rep selling drugs
Her students, her colleagues
And family and friends who care so much
Yeah now, she’s kickin’ cancer’s butt
She found power in her weakness
Strength in a balding head
Joy in the number nineteen
And life instead of death
Cause now, she’s kickin’ cancer’s butt
With her posse of oncologists and that stupid rep selling drugs
Her students, her colleagues
And family and friends who care so much
Yeah now, she’s kickin’ cancer’s butt
Yeah now, she’s kickin’ cancer’s butt.
I'm in awe--awe, I tell you. My posse's got talent!
