Elephants and piggies and baseball, oh my!

Dismal gray clouds and rain followed us all across northern Ohio and upstate New York today on a road trip that took a little longer than expected because it took us an hour to realize we'd left behind something really important and then an hour to go back and get it and start all over again, but now here we are in a lovely little village near the corner of Railroad Ave. and Leatherstocking Street, which suggests that we're definitely not in Kansas anymore. Or Ohio either.

We were in northern Ohio yesterday to spend some time with the grandkids and see some lovely things blooming in their woods, about two hours north of our usual stomping grounds. Over the next couple of days we'll visit the Baseball Hall of Fame and the Fenimore Art Museum, currently featuring an exhibit of Mo Willems illustrations. (Who knew we could visit Jim Thome and Elephant and Piggie in the same little village?) We hope for hiking but it's cold and wet here now so who knows? The point is to relax and have some fun before we head for the big city.

Today, though, was all about the driving. The New York Thruway is not the most scintillating stretch of highway on the planet, but it did what it was intended to do: get us from point A to point B, which at the moment is the adorable Railroad Inn in Cooperstown, New York. We'll keep an eye out for Leatherstocking.

Grampa time!

squirrel corn

I don't know what this is but I love how fuzzy the leaves are.

Full of wonder.

Solomon's seal--coming up all over River Styx Park.

Red trillium, reliably in the same spot at River Styx every spring.
